Everything can be taken apart

RIVIERA hosts Salotto Studio, presenting the first entirely Italian production of The Back Studio, created by Eugenio Rossi. The exhibition will be open to visitors at Via Gorani 4, Milan, from February 15 to March 15, 2022.
Eugenio introduces eight new assemblages created in Turin during the last months of 2021. Each creation reveals mechanisms made of copper nerves, screws gleaming like eyes, and exposed tensioners. The work is meticulous yet spontaneous, with the genesis of these assemblages reminiscent of a zen practice: a finite system of compositional elements neatly arranged on metal shelves, organized not by function but by form. Each element sheds its original function, becoming a solution to a problem: how to keep everything together.
The ghostly light of noble gas introduces another transformative element, altering the sensory perception of the assemblages. Reflective surfaces multiply the refractions, confusing the source of light, while soft shadows make the metal seem flesh-like and the circuits resemble neural networks fibrillating with dopamine.
The exhibition features eight assemblages, objects that seem capable of perceiving and remembering, experiencing pleasure and pain. In this dichotomy between together and separate, light and metal, constantly chasing between act and potential, the assemblage expresses fragility through the constraint of a steel vise.
